inter[net]activity

it is a fact that the vibecontrol experience is in many ways related to the internet, the cyberspace, the digital domain. it started with a blank page, an empty file, a harddrive, space to fill. contributions there were many. links, content, multimedia, exploration. how do you describe something that has not been there before? experience, communication, art - the key elements that made this project so unique. in many ways vibecontrol can be seen as one of the original cyber collectives, an online label, a pool of creativity. the possibilities and angles seemed endless. "welcome passenger & zurfers" - that's what it was all about, social networking in it's infantry, but also very advanced and cultivated at the same time. vibecontrol.net had it all, a little bit of everything, what fun we had in the "developer's space", our black board for the "team", with fancy little features like experimental java applets, pearl scripts, the legendary "slow chat", webcam, radio, you name it... all very playful and very innovative. the userinterface design was important, very, and the user experience was all that mattered. money, well yes, you need it, it's good to have, it helps, but non of us was thinking in terms of dot-com, at least that was never our motivation, we were far from that and beyond. the real challenge was to find out what to do with this new animal, this entity and all it's endless possibilities, or simply put - you gotta have fun. I think in the early days the pages were updated daily, maybe hourly, something was always moving, of course no CMS, none of that, a very unique way of creating existed within this neat little network, a lot of animated things, buttons, mouseovers, very much alive. it was all about sound, colour and shape, a very unique way of content presentation, a multimensional way of expression, something that I have not seen before or again to this day. I guess if you were tuned in at these times, the turn of the millenium with all it's adjustments and changes, you may have a vivid memory of what vibecontrol was about. crossing boundaries and boarders, free form expression on a very high level, very innocent, very artistic. made by artists for artists, as a creative exercise, open source, open heart, open mind. a lot of the original content may not be recoverable due to it's interactive transmorphing nature, due to technological developments, evolution of code, browsers, software, etc, a lot did not make the transition when our server got moved from the eastcoast to the westcoast, some content may be sitting on some backups, hardrives, cds, zips, etc, and some of it you may find on some cryptic ..slash.somethings.. spread on the internet, feel free to google or check out the wayback machine.. there is a definite effort to restore, organize, arrange the archives, many gems, concepts, ideas, a lot of art, artwork, work in progress, contributions by many renowned artists, a lot of sound collected and created by the soundsystem, very enjoyable, a lot to discover, recover, uncover,... an infinite loop, where the end is the beginning is the end... you get the idea, the idea gets you.... this blog is a start, and as you learn or reminisce about vibecontrol you realize - we were waiting for you.
